Willy Chavarria's Take on the Iconic Adidas Shell Toe: A Steel Toe Compton Cowboy Shoes Collaboration
For the NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles, Adidas is collaborating with Willy Chavarria to showcase a unique collection inspired by a local group known as the Compton Cowboys. This collection features two distinct sneakers: the Superstar and Harden Vol. 10, each adorned with eye-catching floral patterns.
The Willy Chavarria x Compton Cowboys x Adidas Superstar takes the iconic shell toe and transforms it into a steel toe design. A silver-tone metal panel with an intricate floral pattern replaces the original shell toe, while the rest of the leather upper and sole unit are finished in black, allowing the hardware to stand out. The Compton Cowboys logo is prominently displayed on the lateral heel, Chavarria's name replaces the 'Superstar' branding above the iconic three stripes, and the tongue features a text label indicating all the parties involved.
In contrast, the Willy Chavarria x Adidas Harden Vol. 10, which James Harden wore for the first time on Sunday, does not incorporate metal. Instead, the sidewalls are molded with a new floral pattern, deviating from the typical ripple effect. Adidas uses the term 'Cold Cement' for this model, as well. The shoe's upper and sole are predominantly black, and while no marks for the Compton Cowboys are present, the tongue pull features a red 'Chavarria' text.
The Compton Cowboys are a group of friends from the Los Angeles neighborhood who share a bond over their equestrian lifestyle. They actively maintain a ranch in Compton, offering educational programs, including a yearly summer camp. Last year, they were featured in Jordan Peele's documentary series, 'High Horse: The Black Cowboy,' which explored the often-overlooked history of the Black cowboy culture in the Old West.
Adidas' plans for the NBA All-Star Weekend also include a collaboration with Anthony Edwards and Hellstar, another streetwear brand based in Los Angeles.
The Willy Chavarria x Compton Cowboys x Adidas Superstar and Willy Chavarria x Adidas Harden Vol. 10 will be released on Friday through Adidas' website, accompanied by a broader range of apparel. Both sneakers are priced at $180.
