It's Getting Hot in Here: A Personal Reflection on a Hot Summer Day

The heat is relentless, and today was no exception. As the heat dome traps us, temperatures soar near 100 degrees, with the heat index even higher. I spent most of the day indoors, a wise decision given the oppressive conditions. In my boredom, I indulged in some self-care, painting my nails and applying temporary tattoos, adding a touch of glitz and glamour to my otherwise mundane routine.

A Glimpse of Normalcy: Cracker Barrel and Mimosas

A small group of us ventured out for lunch at the neighboring Cracker Barrel, a welcome break from the confines of the hotel. We indulged in breakfast food and mimosas, a delightful start to the holiday weekend. Despite the lack of physical exertion, I felt exhausted upon returning to the hotel, a testament to the draining effects of the heat.

A Brief Storm and a Rainbow

After a much-needed nap, I stepped out for dinner at Taco Bell. As I sat inside, the sky suddenly opened up, and a brief downpour began. The storm passed quickly, but the temperature dropped noticeably, providing a welcome relief from the oppressive heat. I stepped outside to witness a rainbow right over the Microtel, a symbolic sight that left me chuckling.

A Personal Journey: My Appalachian Trail Adventure

This summer, I'm embarking on a personal journey of a different kind. In early April, I'll begin my NOBO thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, a challenging and rewarding adventure. As a 20-something based in Nashville, this will be my first long-distance backpacking trip, and I'm eager to face the challenges and rewards that lie ahead.
