Extortion-Related Shooting in Langley: What We Know So Far (2026)

A chilling incident unfolded in Langley, B.C., where a home was targeted in a suspected extortion-related shooting. The RCMP believes this act of violence is linked to a sinister scheme, leaving the community shaken.

On January 8, 2026, at approximately 5:17 a.m., shots rang out in the 6900 block of 232 Street. Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP stated, "Based on our initial investigation, we strongly believe this shooting is extortion-related. Our investigators are working tirelessly to connect the dots and establish any potential links to other ongoing cases."

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this terrifying incident. However, the suspects, believed to have arrived and fled in a dark-coloured sedan, remain at large.

The targeted property has a unique connection. One of the houses is owned by the same family that operates Chohan Freight Forwarders, a trucking company embroiled in a legal battle with the B.C. government. The company's drivers have been involved in multiple overpass and bridge strikes in the Lower Mainland, leading to the cancellation of their license.

"At this stage, we are respecting the privacy of those involved and are not releasing names. We are also exploring any potential connections to the overpass strikes," Sharoom explained to Global News.

The motive behind this shooting remains unclear, leaving many questions unanswered. Is this incident directly related to the trucking company's legal troubles? Or is there another underlying reason?

"We strongly believe this is an extortion-related incident," Sharoom emphasized.

The RCMP is urging anyone with information to come forward and contact them at 604-532-3200, quoting file number 2026-722.

This incident follows a similar shooting in Delta on January 7, where a home was also targeted in what is believed to be another extortion-related attack.

The community is left wondering about the extent of this extortion scheme and the potential impact on other businesses or individuals. Could this be part of a larger, organized criminal operation?

As the investigation unfolds, the RCMP is determined to bring those responsible to justice and ensure the safety of the community.

Stay tuned for further updates as this developing story continues to unfold.
